Fixed Wireless Broadband

Carrier-Grade Wireless Connectivity – Without the Trenching

Keltek has been designing and deploying fixed wireless broadband solutions since the early days of millimeter wave (mmWave) technology – long before it became the backbone of 5G networks. Today’s fixed wireless systems can exceed 10 Gbps with five-nines (99.999%) reliability, making them a viable alternative – and a powerful complement – to traditional fiber for campus interconnects, multi-building networks, backup and redundancy links, and connectivity in locations where trenching or conduit installation is impractical or cost-prohibitive.

Our team’s hands-on experience spans point-to-point (PTP) and point-to-multipoint (PMP) configurations across licensed spectrum bands – the same technology now powering AT&T’s 5G mmWave network (via AT&T’s acquisition of FiberTower’s spectrum portfolio). We bring that deep technical lineage to every project, from commercial campus networks to mission-critical government and defense installations.

Fixed Wireless Broadband

How It Works (2026 Technology Overview):

Fixed wireless broadband uses licensed radio spectrum – typically in the 24 GHz, 28 GHz, or 39 GHz millimeter wave bands – to transmit high-speed data between two or more fixed locations using small rooftop-mounted antennas. Unlike unlicensed spectrum (Wi-Fi), licensed spectrum links are interference-protected and engineered for enterprise-grade reliability. Modern systems deliver synchronous (equal upload/download) speeds ranging from 100 Mbps to 10+ Gbps over distances of 1 to 5 miles, with virtually no latency penalty vs. fiber. Equipment footprints are minimal – today’s antennas are compact, aesthetically unobtrusive, and can be installed in hours with no street-level disruption.

Fixed Wireless Broadband

Core Services:

  • Licensed mmWave point-to-point (PTP) links – 100 Mbps to 10+ Gbps, synchronous up/down, distances up to 5 miles
  • Point-to-multipoint (PMP) campus distribution – simultaneous high-speed connectivity to multiple buildings from a single transmitter site
  • Redundant/failover broadband – wireless backup links that activate automatically if primary fiber goes down, ensuring business continuity and 99.999% uptime SLAs
  • Campus LAN extension – wirelessly connecting buildings across a campus or complex without trenching, conduit, or easement negotiations
  • Rapid-deployment broadband for temporary or remote sites – government facilities, construction sites, emergency operations centers, and forward operating locations
  • Telecommunications infrastructure replacement and modernization – upgrading legacy or end-of-life wireless systems with current-generation mmWave or multi-band equipment
  • RF site surveys, link budget analysis, and path engineering – full pre-deployment planning and documentation

Fixed Wireless Broadband

Key Advantages Over Traditional Wired Connectivity:

  • No trenching, no conduit, no easements – dramatically lower installation costs and faster deployment timelines
  • Carrier-grade licensed spectrum – interference-free, with 99.999% uptime guarantees that match or exceed fiber SLAs
  • Scalable bandwidth – upgrade from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps+ by adding equipment, not re-running cable
  • Ideal for secure, sensitive environments – physically isolated, air-gapped-capable links with no shared infrastructure exposure

Government & Defense Applications:

Fixed wireless is increasingly critical in federal and defense environments where secure, resilient communications infrastructure must be established quickly – or where existing telecommunications systems require replacement with trusted US-sourced technology. Keltek is actively pursuing opportunities including:

  • Legacy telecommunications infrastructure replacement – upgrading aging or foreign-sourced wireless systems at critical infrastructure facilities with modern, US-manufactured equipment meeting current federal security standards
  • Multi-building federal campus networks – connecting agency buildings, data centers, and operations centers without costly underground infrastructure work
  • Emergency and contingency communications – rapid-deployment broadband links for continuity of operations (COOP) sites and emergency operations centers
  • Port, canal, and critical infrastructure connectivity – ruggedized fixed wireless solutions for port authorities, waterway management facilities, and international infrastructure modernization projects

Featured Projects:

Highlight Project: Atlantech Online / Silver Spring Innovation Center (Montgomery County, MD) – Served as a key technical partner on Montgomery County’s landmark “ultraGig” initiative – the first link in the county’s ultraMontgomery broadband program. The project delivered a 1 Gbps wireless connection using FiberTower’s licensed 24 GHz spectrum from Atlantech Online’s Silver Spring Data Center to the Silver Spring Innovation Center, replacing a connection that had previously peaked at 200 Mbps. The link operates at 99.999% reliability and was deployed at no additional cost to the county compared to their prior service. Featured in official Montgomery County ribbon-cutting with County Executive Ike Leggett (2015).

Highlight Project: Digital Harbor Foundation (Baltimore, MD) – Complete fixed wireless broadband overhaul and network infrastructure redesign for this education and technology non-profit in Baltimore’s Federal Hill neighborhood. Replaced an underperforming system with a high-availability licensed wireless solution, delivering dramatically improved speeds and reliability for the Foundation’s students and programs.
